2025 Email on Calling Of The Names Annual 9/11 Ceremony

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever does. -Margaret Mead

Dear Friends of Calling of the Names 9/11 Ceremony,

I hope this email finds you well and happy. In honor of Pope Francis’ passing, I am writing today to briefly reflect on his visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. At the end of this email is a link to a story about the Pope’s time at the 9/11 Museum. I am also reaching out to you to ask for your support in planning this year’s Calling Of The Names Ceremony.

A few hundred of us who helped after 9/11 (responders and volunteers) were welcomed to be outside of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on September 15, 2015, when Pope Francis arrived. He took time to smile and wave at us and to bless us before he went inside the museum to meet with family members. My 9/11 family member friends told me how caring he was, how he offered his prayers & expressed his sorrow for their loss. Everyone talked about how easy it was to be with him. During his visit Pope Francis said: “Here, amid pain and grief, we also have a palpable sense of the heroic goodness which people are capable of, those hidden reserves of strength from which we can draw. In the depths of pain and suffering, you also witnessed the heights of generosity and service. This place of death became a place of life too, a place of saved lives, a hymn to the triumph of life over the prophets of destruction and death, to goodness over evil, to reconciliation and unity over hatred and division.”

Thank you, Pope Francis, for the healing, peace, and sense of community you dedicated your life to; may you rest in peace.

As Pope Francis indicated, evil is transformed by the good that people create in response. With your help, we can continue to honor the good deeds of 9/11 responders and volunteers, especially those who are no longer with us.

I would be grateful for any donation you can send to help us prepare for this fall's ceremony. Donations are tax deductible when made through our fiscal intermediary, 9/11 Remembered. Donations can be made on our website: www.callingofthenames.org

If you'd prefer to send a check, make it payable to 9/11 Remembered, in the memo write "For COTN" and mail to:

Your support makes the ceremony possible, including our beautiful commemorative programs and patches. Thank you for the gift of any size! Please be in touch if you have questions or would like more information.

Blessings and Peace,
